New Bike Rides and Lessons Available

We're offering the full suite of Adult cycling and maintenance lessons again for Spring at our new venue. Creative Artworks have painted the pillars in fun colours to spruce up the old Morrisons car park, which we’re using as a completely traffic-free environment to deliver beginners and confidence building cycling training!

We’ve also launched a Wednesday morning ride which introduces you to the use of traffic-free cycle paths and routes around Bradford and that enable stress-free access to green space.

This Wednesday lesson/ride is ideal for those who have completed most of their level 1 training sessions or who are already comfortable and confident with their ability to:-

  • make the bike where you want it to go

  • swerve

  • use gears (able to change up or down a gear easily)

  • controlled stopping and emergency stopping

  • cycling one handed is useful but not essential

  • looking over your shoulder to help with awareness of other path users

Capital of Cycling Wins 50K Active Travel Hub Grant from CityConnect

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve secured 50k funding from CityConnect for the next year which will help us to deliver a range of services to the people of Bradford. We’re working on getting our training offers out to a range of community centre partners in different areas so that cycling activities can be provided nearer to where people live - including being in talks with Sandale Trust, to offer activities for youth in Buttershaw, Bierley Community Centre, Bradford Moor PASS in BD3 and more.

We’re also delighted to be partnered with the Margaret Carey Foundation (MCF), who were also successful in getting a grant, in Shipley to be delivering an active travel hub for Shipley, along with the Shipley Town Council and The Kirkgate Centre. MCF's second hand bike shop in Shipley is a great place to go it you want to pick up an affordable bike.

We will be offering pop-up events and support for bike maintenance and activities for families throughout the summer. Do get in touch if you’d like to volunteer or get involved!

We’re also launching our free cycling clothing library. We’ve collected thousands of items of both used and new cycling apparel that has been donated from around the country of all shapes and sizes. Everyone is welcome to have a rifle through and we hope to provide lots of items to cycling community groups and individuals.  The scheme is provided in partnership with Shutt VR Clothing.

BDSL- back at Lister Park on Saturdays!

Feedback from our Maintenance Lessons

Beginner & Intermediate Bike Maintenance (March ‘23)

“Emily at Capital of Cycling was really helpful on both the Beginner and Intermediate bike maintenance courses I took. She made intimidating tasks such as replacing brake pads or removing and replacing inner tubes on the tire easy, by explaining clearly and giving everyone in the class plenty of opportunity for questions, making the sessions interactive. As a result, I used this knowledge to pass the last hiring stage of a bike based travel company and can now gladly say I've got the job!”

Beginner Bike Maintenance (March ‘23)

“I really enjoyed the course! Thank you soooo much. You were a very patient and thorough teacher with us all. It was fun and informative. I really enjoyed it and felt empowered by my knowledge and had a quick ride on the road outside as I left!
